HCF Contract Furniture was appointed to design, manufacture and install new seating for the café and first-floor working space at Drayton Manor High School in London. The brief was to create a mix of comfortable, durable and space-efficient seating that could cope with the demands of a busy secondary school while still feeling modern, welcoming and on-brand.
The finished scheme combines long runs of banquette seating, Serene meeting booths, large bespoke benches and table-top seating areas, giving students and staff a variety of ways to eat, relax, study and collaborate throughout the day.
Project Overview: Booth Seating for a Busy School Environment
School cafés and study spaces have to work hard. They need to seat large numbers of students quickly, stand up to heavy daily use, and still look smart years down the line. For Drayton Manor High School, we designed a layout that:
Maximises seating capacity without feeling cramped
Creates clear zones for dining, quiet study and informal meetings
Improves acoustics and comfort through upholstered backrests and high backs
Uses easy-to-clean, contract-grade fabrics suitable for Crib 5 environments
By using a combination of booth seating, banquettes and loose table areas, we were able to give the school a flexible, future-proof layout that works across break times, after-school study and staff use.
Kansas Banquette Seating in the Café
In the main café area we installed a long run of Kansas banquette seating, designed to sit neatly against the wall and make the most of every centimetre of space.

Serene Meeting Area Booth Seating on the First Floor
Upstairs, the school wanted a more focused environment for quiet work, small meetings and group study. For this space we specified our Serene meeting area booth seating.
These Serene booths provide:
Semi-private study pods where students can work without distraction
A comfortable setting for one-to-one discussions, mentoring and staff meetings
High backs and enclosed sides to help reduce noise and create a more intimate feel
A clean, contemporary design that complements the café while giving the working floor its own identity
By combining multiple Serene booths in one zone, we’ve created a series of informal meeting pods that are perfect for sixth formers and staff looking for a quiet place to work.
Bespoke Benches & Table Top Seating Areas
To support the core booth seating, we also manufactured large bespoke benches and table-top seating areas. These provide:
- Feature tables in the centre of a dining area
- Cosy semi-circular booths against walls
- Flexible family and group seating that feels special
The mix of booth seating and open bench/table areas ensures the space works just as well for quick breaks as it does for extended study sessions.
